This is why YouTube is so great: I still have an audio tape recording of my sister and I, from around Christmas of ’78, playing with the Stretch Armstrong and Stretch Monster dolls. She tells me to say ‘We’ll meet again, shorty!’ just like the TV ad, but instead I say ‘We’ll meet again, Stroggie!!’ Where else but YouTube can you see something like this, to anchor your old memories to??

I love the kid’s menacing stare at 0:22. Top shelf acting.
But i bet you TM967CL,if they came up with it again,it would be a success,I know I would get one of each for me and maybe few more as gifts,lol,wouldn’t you?
I know the toy pre-dated the movie – but this does look like the Kraken from ‘Clash of the Titans’.
That has just taken me back 30 years. great to see it again I loved my stretch monster.
I had the green monster and my brother got stuck with Stretch Armstrong. They were both really heavy!
I actually think this would have been an awesome toy. Why oh why was I born in the nineties? I think all I had was a G.I. Joe that wasn’t even one of the original cartoon characters… although I think we all love our old toys unconditionally.

I always wanted the stretch monster, but mother bought me stretch Armstrong for my birthday instead. Ah well, I did enjoy Mr Armstrong and he is lurking in the loft somewhere. Thanks for the post.

Wow! I did not expect to recognize this commercial, but three seconds after I downloaded it (and I saw the part where the monster’s head is peering over the rock) I received a flood of memories!
Cool but really, did kids actually have fun with these things? I never had Stretch or the monster but it looks like you need a LOT of imagination to have fun with it!
