LOAD MASTER SANITATION TOY TRUCK – CHILD GUIDANCE
This is a video of a toy truck I rebuilt. I had this identical truck when I was a little boy, but it was destroyed during my brother’s “fit O rage”. After an extensive search, I found this one on eBay and rebuilt it. It’s called a Load-Master Sanitation truck. It was made by Child Guidance and was distributed through Child World toy stores (now defunct) in the late 60′s early 70′s. The box it came in states; “It’s Really Real!”.
YES IT DID HAVE A DOOR ON THE REAR IT WAS RED IN COLOR AND WHEN YOU OPENED IT IT STOPED I TOOK MINE OFF TO WOW WHAT A BLAST FROM THE PAST ………..SWEET MAN WISH I HAD MINE
wow they made good toys back then. now they are mostly stupid.
@Yessong1 I also have on eof the garbage pails that originally came with the truck but no garbage pail lid to go with it. I think they cam with three pails if memory serves me correctly
sure – shoot me an email address and I’ll get ya some pics
That’s awesome! After I made this vid, my main Forward/Reverse switch fell apart into a million pieces. I super glued every piece back together (oy!). I guess I’ve bough some time before it explodes again.
Is there any way you can send me pics of your switch and wiring next time you have it apart? If so, I will start a Load Master User Group on Yahoo so we can archive our rebuild pics and have a place we can communicate.
This was my favorite toy when I was a kid -I found a busted one at a swap meet for $15! My rear was broken and I had to fabricate a new hinge…and, like yours, my lower plastic spring is busted – but I do have the plastic door and my moving wall works perfectly. My big problem is that both of the switches where cracked at the contacts. I installed mini toggels and all works great now – I also re-created the decals – thanks for the vid – good to see others with this classic toy
My older son I have flown Cox helicopters and control line planes with for years, and my young son just went on his first Estes launch. As a side note, I never finished an Estes Gyroc when I was 13; a few years ago, my older son and I finished it together and I had him launch it 30 years after I started on it! THAT was cool!!!!
Rockets and Cox airplanes! While I don’t prevent my kids from playing video games, they generally play with them moderately, if even that. Both prefer games, toys etc. I have exposed them to vintage toys, new toys of all types. My young son plays with new GIJoes, my older son collects vintage GI Joes. I believe that there are great things old and new to play with, and to never ever grow up completely! If a kid spends all day in his PJs playing videos, he needs a real hobby.
I wrote an in-depth response to you about parents and toys, but I just thought of something MUCH cooler…
Let’s take a poll….
WOULD YOU RATHER LET YOUR KIDS PLAY WITH ESTES ROCKETS AND COX AIRPLANES OR VIDEO GAMES AND iPODS?
Personally, I believe the Estes and Cox toys gave us something that is sorely missing in kids lives, don’t you think? Am I alone on this?
Great video on a great toy! My parent story is I was not allowed to bring my Estes rockets with me when we moved. I was so mad I took the window in my room out of its slider, and launched all my rockets out of my bedroom. I was down to the last few when my parents said “you can take them” and I ran all over the neighborhood picking them up…they were sitting on driveways, in the street, everywhere. Got them all back except my Sprint which ended up in a pool! What is it w/parents and toys?!
thanks yea if you can do i vid of it collecting trash i favouite it .just shreddings would be good .when you pack trash in the back in side the ejector panel would move back as it get more and more filled up .thanks
Thanks! While it will take in crumpled paper, I need to work on the sweeper arm as it’s not tight to the inside. Hence, things like paper clips and pennies just sit there. However, there is another vid on Utube of someone else’s LoadMaster eating various things, though. I’ll do a vid when I adjust the sweeper. Thanks again.
would you do a vid of it collecting trash such as paper your so lucky to have one of these rl garbage trucks
is your name rick ???
Twas my favorite as well as a little guy! Parents throwing these out should be reprimanded! In working order these go for over $400 minimum on Ebay…IF you can find one. I got one three years ago in perfect order for $515. When you can find one, they are heavily and competitively bid on! Good luck if you’re looking!
Dammit!!!! Now I want that toy garbage truck lol!!! I’m a big fan of rear load packer garbage trucks!!!!! I remember seeing Loadmaster RL trucks in action in the early 80′s when I was a kid!!!! I am baffled that they had RL garbage truck toys that were extremely detailed with slide-sweep compactors & ejector plates during the 60s & 70s!!!! Great Work!!!!!
You’re very welcomed! Perhaps you did remove it? It was a bit annoying after all to have to pull that cover down in order to get that sweeper to work. In any case, I know that mine still had the blue cover and that’s why I remember it.
I hope that one day one of the toy companies decides to bring it back.
Thanks for the information. After years of trying to find out if there was a cover over the sweeper mouth, you finally put an end to the mystery! THANK YOU!
I don’t know why I don’t remember the cover, unless I purposefully removed it right away with the understanding it wouldn’t break the truck if I did it…. possibly one of my earliest “decisions”.
And you’re totally right…. this is one of the best toys EVER!
Regarding parents throwing out favorite toys, perhaps its a subconscious way of getting back at us for everything that we may have done to them! You are right, its devastating! I was so pissed because she clearly could not grasp the value of this toy. Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, this truck is one of the best toys ever made. It just did so many things and was so thoughtfully constructed.
Your truck is missing the clear plastic blue cover that used to go over the sweeper mouth. I think that little push switch had something to do with that. This cover was a protection against little fingers going into the sweeper. If I remember correctly the sweeper is pretty strong and can lightly hurt you if you put a finger inside. The sweeper couldn’t work unless the protective cover was pulled down. Regarding the garbage cans, they were plastic and they were red and yellow with lids.
What is it with parents throwing out our favorite toys? Not to diminish your story, but since I put this video on utube, I’ve heard from 15 guys whose mother or father did the same thing… simply tossed their favorite toy for unimportant reasons. It’s devastating!
So, do you know what the little push switch above the sweeper mouth (seen clearly at 6:38) is?
Man, I can’t remember the barrels at all. Pls fill me in— plastic? metal? colors? size? lids?
That was my favorite toy growing up. I had an excellent one in working order well into my adulthood which I left at my mother’s house. It had its original box and my mother was cleaning out one day and she threw it out! I even had the two garbage cans that it came with! I could have “killed” her when I found out that she threw it out. It was such a wonderful toy! By the way, we got ours for under $10.00!!!
Too much, but it was worth it to me.
how much did you pay for it
It might be worthwhile, or perhaps you could get the same size plastic gear to replace the worn one.
