I bought this as a birthday gift for a family member at a local store. I liked the idea of an Etch A Sketch and Magnadoodle combined. I was disappointed in the screen of this toy.

Yes, you can use either the knobs or pen to create a picture. Erasing is done with the finger. During this process one has to press VERY hard on the toy in order for the picture to erase.

I thought a cool thing would be to color in the entire screen with the pen then use the finger to create a picture. This does not work. The images are dim to begin with and it’s impossible to cover the entire screen. Erasing did very little as the color of the screen and the print on it are too close in shade for the contrast needed for this type of creativity.

Also, there will always be a “dot” on the screen. This shows where the starting point for the knobs is currently positioned. It never gets erased so it has to be incorporated into the picture.

The toy iteself feels cheaply made…like it will break if dropped. Not a fan and am disappointed that I chose this instead of another gift.

I would not recommend this. If you are going to purchase, watch the price on this one. I bought it offline for single digit dollar amounts. It’s not worth what I paid, let alone the double digit amounts listed online.

A fun combination of Etch-A-Sketch and a Doodle Pad! Nice wide line and easy to use a finger or the opposite end of the stylus to erace any mistakes.

We put this on my 5 year old’s birthday wish list. Unfortunately, it was purchased for him. The first thing we noticed was the incredibly cheap construction. My husband and I remembered the heavy duty feel of the original one which was full of sand and you had to shake it to clear the picture. We were shocked by how flimsy this one felt. The real bummer is that you have to clean the picture away by wiping it with a cloth. We liked that this one had a stylus so our son could draw. He seems to enjoy drawing on it but I wish we had gotten the one with only the knobs since there are a lot of drawing pads available.
