Disclosure: I received a free Tonka Ricochet Trickster as a BzzAgent to try out with my kiddos. The opinions I express here are my own.

This little guy will make even your wee ones experts at performing vehicular acrobatics. In addition to the regular forward and backward levers, there’s a special “trick” button that makes performing your Trickster’s specialty simple enough for even old fogies (like me).

Tricksters come in 2 varieties: Buzzsaw and Rampage. The Buzzsaw’s special trick is spinning. Press the trick button once to spin in one direction and again to spin in the opposite direction. The Rampage’s special trick is flipping. Both cars can be made to do both tricks without using the “special” button. We received the Buzzsaw for review.

Tonka XT Ricochet Tricksters are small and rechargeable. You just plug the car into the remote to recharge. The remote takes 4 AA batteries (not included). Tonka says charging takes about 20 minutes and lasts about 15-20 minutes. We found that the first charge only took about 13 minutes and lasted 25 minutes. Subsequent charges on the same batteries take slightly longer and last a slightly shorter time, but the figures they give seem to be the average.

The cord is as short as it possibly can be, but it’s not too difficult to plug in (the place where it goes is on the side of the car, between the wheels). The compartment that hides the cord is also as small as it possibly can be, there’s exactly one way to stow the cord away if you want it to fit.

The controls are ultra simple. There are 2 levers, one each on the right and left, to control the car’s direction. If you flip one lever in one direction and the other in the opposite direction, the car will spin. Press both levers up, and the car goes straight forward. Press them down, and it goes backwards, but not straight (it turns unpredictably). When the car is flipped, the controls are reversed.

The car also runs on 3 different channels (there’s a switch on both the car and the remote for changing channels), making it easy to run multiple cars in one room.

This one is definitely a keeper! I like that it’s small and easy to put away, with no unruly antenna to get in the way. The kiddos like the ease of use and tricky nature of the Tonka XT Ricochet Trickster, although the oldest wouldn’t mind having more control over the car.

If you want precision driving, the Ricochet Trickster isn’t for you.

But if you like a little quirky unpredictability, the Trickster is a fun ride.

I’m a bzzagent and I received the Tonka XT Ricochet Tricksters R/C for free for my three kids to try out. The Richochet Trickster is a remote controlled stunt vehicle. It does crazy tricks and has exciting driving. It has a “trick trigger” function that lets your child perform one of three unique signature pre-programmed stunts, depending on which model you get. There is the “Rampage Flip, the “Zig-Zag Jolt” and the “Buzzsaw Spin”. The one I got does the “Buzzsaw Spin”. They retail for about $24.99. The age recommendation on the package is 6+. The controller requires 5 AA batteries, and it needs to be charged for 20-30 minutes for 15-30 minutes of play time. To charge the car, you connect the car to the controller. There is no electricity involved which means you can take the car anywhere and charge it, which is a really nice feature.
All three of my children, boy 9, girl 6 and boy 3 played with this toy. All three kids liked it. My three year old probably liked it the best. He has spent the most time playing with. My daughter age 6 really liked it too. My nine year old son played with it but it didn’t keep his attention too long. It does say ages 6+ but my almost 4 year old had no problems figuring out the controller. My kids play with it in about every room in the house. It is small enough to go under our couches and entertainment center. The love to drive it off of the top of the stairs and watch it “fly” down the stairs. It holds up really well with all the abuse they give it. The also play with it in the kitchen on the hardwood floor. It does well on any kind of flooring including carpet. It does go really fast and spins really fast, the kids think its “acting crazy”. It says it only gets about 15-30 minutes of play time per charge but we have gotten much more. They won’t play with it for a few days and then come back to it and it still has a charge. Overall the kids enjoyed the toy, some more than others but I’m very happy with it as a mom.

I got this from BzzAgent too. My two sons loved it as did their friends. It does need batteries and recharging after using but it was easy to do and fairly quick. They get to be creative trying different obstacles and tricks. They have not tired of it. It is a great gift idea since each car does different tricks and at a reasonable price.
